Feb 20, 2017 · Born in Memphis in 1928, Grisanti attended Christian Brothers High School and then started working at his father’s Main Street restaurant, a little place called Willie’s Grill, in the 1950s. It was there that he began to pick up his knowledge of food and wine that would make him the city’s recognized expert in both fields. The Grisanti Family has had many successful restaurants in the Memphis area since David’s grandfather, Rinaldo, immigrated from Lucca, Italy as a young man and opened the first market in 1909.
